Journal Entry

"I will listen to what God the Lord will say; He promises peace to His people, His saints – but let them not return to folly." (Psalm 85:8)

Ah, the creative process! "City on a Hill 2 – subtitled: "All Creatures of our God and King," is under way. Marc Byrd will be co-producing with me again. And I’ve hired an amazing audio engineer named Julian Kindred who is already doing a brilliant job.

Tuesday and Wednesday we worked on a few songs we’ve written or selected for the cause; and we laid down guide guitars and scratch vocals. Thursday and Friday Todd Bragg, drummer of Caedman’s Call, and Chris Donahue, my favorite bass guitar player (besides Tim Chandler of course) were the first to enter the brush swinging machetes, so to speak. It’s what we call "basic tracks." They did a fine job on three songs. It’s a start.

The project will require several weeks – months, actually – to complete. It’s a daunting challenge! Gathering the artists is the most difficult part. It’s like trying to scoop goldfish out of an aquarium. So far, the committed participants are: Jars of Clay, Caedmon’s Call, FFH, Bebo Norman, Mac Powell, and The Choir. And hopefully, but yet to be confirmed are: Jennifer Knapp, Nichole Nordeman and D.C.Talk. My mind and body are already weary…but my heart is glad. I trust that the music and words on this album will inspire many to worship the God of Wonders beyond our galaxy – and it’s just really great to have work!

I’m happy to be home with my family today. It’ll be good to in the house of the Lord tomorrow. And I’m looking forward to Monday morning at 10:00!

Way too much about me, though! I think Tim, Derri, or Dan oughta write the next journal entry!

Peace to thee and thine,

Steve
