Journal Entry

The ice cream truck is coming down our street, which always prompts momentary panic in the Hindalong household – whoops, shrieks, doors flying open, people (children and adults alike) running every which way, scavenging coins and dollar bills for the cause. I’m fourth out the door clutching two quarters and a dime. The music blares relentlessly through a bullhorn speaker, implying, "Hurry! Hurry! Make up your minds! I don’t have all day to idle here in front of your house for a couple of bucks!" So in haste, we survey the menu and make the necessary math calculations. I get one of those nutty drumsticks.

On the walk up the driveway to the house I say to Nancy, "I need to write another journal entry for the Choir web site, ‘cause it’s been a month…but I don’t know what to write about…Not much is goin’ on." "You’ll think of something," she says.

That was yesterday. Today I fired up my new chainsaw and went to work on a tree that had been uprooted a couple of months ago as a result of a windstorm. Nancy helped me drag limbs and stack logs. We’ll both be sore in the morning. Anyhow, ya know you’re alive when you’re feelin’ a little pain! Incidentally, remember that song that went, "If I had a yard, I would play in it?" Well…now that I’ve got a yard, I must WORK in it!

So, I’m enjoying a domestic summer following a chaotic spring. Nancy and I were sitting on the front porch this evening, she, reading a book, and I, enjoying a cigar, when Derri called. We talked for a good while about all sorts of things. We’re considering doing "At the Foot of the Cross, volume THREE." It might be about time. Dan Michaels is encouraging us to do so. Hmmm. What do you think?"

In the meantime, we’re enjoying everybody’s responses to "Flap Your Wings." If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to post ‘em on the message board. And don’t forget to look for, "City on a Hill," to be released on August 22.

Lastly, I’ve thus far begun each journal entry with scripture; but this time, as I was leafing through my Bible in search of an inspiring verse to offer, well…the ice cream truck derailed my train of thought. So tonight I’ll close with a promise from Jesus.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
(Matthew 11:28)
